Marcia Wise’s oil painting “Into the Light,” plays boldly with the use of complimentary colors. Here we see the artist’s fearlessness by her use of color - blues, magentas and violets, with a lighter mix of oranges, yellows, and hints of reds and greens. It is a part of her recent series in which palette knives are used to produce a multi-layered and broken application of color to the work. This painting brings to mind, in metaphorical imagery, the combination of the seemingly mountainous terrain that we climb in our individual seeking of the light, or of truth, and finally reaching the height of understanding as we arrive at the peaks of experience. Here the artist attempts to bring her viewers “Into the Light” both of the world at large and again, as in most of her work, to show us her own inner journey toward self-discovery with her constant muse being the natural world. This, she believes, is the reason she is alive, and that painting allows her to experience her place within this search at different junctures of her life, as well as to tell that story to her viewers in hopes she strikes a chord within them as well. This painting is 4 feet long and one foot in height, framed in cherry, and is signed on the front by the artist.
