Leslie Zelamsky's "Point of Departure 4" is a 40 x 31 x 8.5 inch sculpture constructed of pine fence pickets. While primarily raw wood, some parts have traces of white and gold paint. There are 12 rows of handmade pickets that reduce in height and quantity with each layer. The reverse side of the sculpture is flat and presents like a typical picket fence. This free-standing piece evokes a sense of authority and order which is contrasted by the warmth and texture of the wood. "Point of Departure 4" is signed on the bottom of the flat side.

“Point of Departure 4” is the fourth piece in Zelamsky's “Point of Departure” series where the artist explores how she arrives at a finished piece. Deeply rooted in intuition and spontaneity, each layer is the result of the moment that came before. The “Point of Departure” series also reflects major departures in the artist's personal life that have influenced her arrival in the present.
