Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

16 One is a found 16mm home movie taken from its source and buried outside of my own home for 31 days. Control was given to the environment, which warped and deteriorated the film while it was underground. The piece belongs to many authors; the family it documents, the environment which shaped the film print, and myself. It is a documentation of a physical process. 16 One is an abstract artifact that constructs a place for the past and present to commune.”

Tell us about yourself. How did you come to be an artist in video / digital media?

Holden Treadway works across installation, expanded cinema, and experimental film. His work explores the relationships between analog manipulation, new media, process art, and live performance. Holden received his bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies at the University of Kentucky and is currently an MFA candidate in Film Production at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He is a graduate teacher of film production, editing, and experimental practice. Holden is continually interested in how to meld tactile media with video and contemporary technologies. The importance and focus on process is evident in his work.

Tell us about the artwork. How did you come to be an artist in video / digital media?

“LABYRINTHIAN is a 3D animation responding to the actual map of the Alfama, which is the oldest district of Lisbon. It is characterized by very narrow medieval streets and ancient houses where it is relatively easy to get lost in it's maze. The animation was produced during an artist residency at Hangar in Lisbon 2019. I am a video and sound artist. I work with video, 2D & 3D animation, digital photography, typography, sound & graphics. I studied Media Art & Contemporary Arts at Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig & I did a Master in New Media Production at ICDC Liverpool. I won the Liverpool Art Prize in 2011. I relocated from London to Germany in 2020.”
