Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

“One woman from the work “Supper” which is a 5-channel video installation showing five women who live alone, as they prepare supper and eat it. Through the videos, the concept of living alone is examined. These are not the main issues of the work, but:

1. Although all of the women were born in Israel, their parents or grandparents immigrated to Israel from different countries and something of their different cultures is revealed through the videos.

2. Peels of vegetables and fruits that the woman in this video uses for compost can be seen, and as all five meals are vegan, they do not contribute to global warming as livestock and their byproducts produce 51% of the greenhouse gases. Thus, the immense suffering of animals used in the industry diminishes as well.”

Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

“123-19 is video project that I started to create at the beginning of 2020 when the first lockdown in Indonesia and several countries started in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. I documented the Covid-19 protocol in my daily routine, when this new reality felt surreal, like a movie. This video is an experimental documentary.”

Tell us about yourself. How did you come to be an artist in video / digital media?

“My interest in art and filmmaking began when I was visiting small cinema in my hometown in East Java. The cleaning service staff let me enter the building to see movie posters which I enjoy like visiting exhibitions. Since that time I dreamt to become filmmaker. Then I started filmmaking in 2008 until now. My films have been screened in several festivals in Indonesia and internationally.”
