Tatiana Flis’ “An Obsidian Return” is an 8 x 10 inch graphite and gouache drawing on thick rag paper with a deckled edge. The work is float mounted and framed in a simple black frame, and is signed in the lower right corner. The framed dimensions of the piece is 12 x 10 x 1 inches. An abandoned brick square building with a missing door and window sits on top of wooden spires. Sitting on top of the grey brick, an active volcanic mountain reaches up and spits decorative swirls of neon orange, red, and yellow lava.

Tatiana Flis is a mixed-media artist working primarily in sculpture and drawing. In using a surrealist language, she creates subtle forms and images that explore relationships between the human psyche and moments of chaos, solitude, tension, excess and absence. Her work has been shown extensively and is in many private collections.
