Where Earth Meets Sky–Shared Inspiration highlights the power and inspiration of nature’s essential elements. This exhibition of oil paintings by Marcia R Wise and sculptural-ceramics by Mimi Howard is a pairing of emotion and response. Wise's reaction to the landscape is visually expressed on canvas through her passionate work with and through color. Howard's unique forms in clay are her physical expression to the ever-changing events found in the landscape. This pairing of art forms represents the power, boldness, and joy of their shared inspiration.

PRESS RELEASE (PDF)
The essence of Mimi Howard’s work is inspired by a fascination with the magic and beauty found in nature, especially in the garden. Working in clay that can be stretched, pushed, and pulled into amazing beautiful forms allows her to share her experience of the world with those around her. Each vessel is a unique combination of hand-built and wheel-thrown parts that are then fired multiple times in a kiln. Howard’s sculptures have a tactile quality that allows those who see and touch them to readily experience the fluid movement, natural edges, turns, and hidden crevices.

Marcia Wise’s abstracted landscape paintings reflect the powerful emotional reactions that aspects of nature stir within her, an honest peek into the artist’s inner relationship with the world. The paintings in this series, rich with intense color, represent a turning point in her artistic development; this new work turns emphatically in a freer, more abstract direction. Wise is passionate about color placement, color relationships, light effects, introspection, form and pattern manipulation, and textural play.
