2020: SHARP FOCUS
Core Group Show
Curated by Marie Craig + Tatiana Flis
September 2–27, 2020
“Observe the life moving like a river around you…and realize that the images you make may become part of the collective history of the time that you are living in.”–Eli Reed
2020 has been a time of upheaval. Art acts as a lens, mirroring, illuminating and amplifying the experiences of both the creator and the viewer. As keen observers, artists internalize what they experience, reflect, and respond.
Calamity and loss bring clarity and focus attention on what’s truly important. Each of the artists here has channeled their individual circumstances and experience of life in the present moment into works that are a reflection of the times and a glimpse into the ways this community of creative spirits has absorbed and responded to the myriad challenges facing us all.

Curators
Marie Craig is co-founder and director of Fountain Street Gallery. Graduating from Clark University, MA, with a Master’s in Biology, Craig began as a medical photographer and illustrator specializing in cell biology. She then became a teacher, curator, and photographer, all in the fine art community. Craig has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions at Danforth Art, Framingham, COSO, Boston, and BigCI Open Day, Australia. Her most recent show at Fountain Street, “Secrets of the Unseen,” featured large-scale cyanotypes, made from a primitive photographic process that embraces the unpredictability of the sun, wind and water. By rooting her artistic technique in nature’s forces, Craig explores our interconnectedness. She works from her studio in Natick, MA.
Tatiana Flis, Assistant Director of Fountain Street Gallery, earned a BFA in Sculpture and Printmaking from Ringling College of Art and Design, FL, and her MFA in Sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art, MI. She has been featured in Artscope Magazine, Art New England, and reviewed in The Boston Globe. Flis has participated in multiple art fairs in Boston and Chicago and was awarded creative residencies at Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT and Drop, Forge & Tool in Hudson, NY. Her work has been shown extensively throughout the United States and is collected internationally. She works from her studio in Millbury, MA.
