Do you want to go to the seaside?
I’m not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
I handled my charm with time and sleight of hand

In The Seaside

“In The Seaside” is a collection of works that displays both the calm and chaos of the sea. Growing up on the east coast, the ocean has always been a constant in my life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, that consistency has become more reassuring than ever before. The hazy muted blue and grey hues that repeat throughout this collection conjure up memories of spending, not only summer days, but years on the coast of Maine.

Shany Porras’s "Translation 1 Debussy Sonata 1" with its dark, moody colors and abstract movement is reflective of the ocean during a storm. Vicki McKenna’s "Colors of the Sea at Rousa” reminds me of summer evenings I would spend at the beach with family and friends, which is not only a memory I have from early childhood but was a common meeting point to social distance during the summer of COVID-19. I hope that this collection speaks to others who have spent time on and appreciated the east coast, whether it be one summer day or a lifetime.
