At the Edge features the work of C. Clinton and Vicki McKenna. The show highlights Clinton’s paintings, and platinum/palladium photographic prints by McKenna. Clinton’s and McKenna’s work illuminates the contrast, change, and complexity produced by interactions in the natural world.
C. Clinton's paintings are rooted in the magic of light in the landscape, and a desire to make the mystery of intangible forces visible by incrementally recreating shifting shadow and light-play at distinct moments in time. She relates the rhythms and patterns of changing seasons to the evolution of her personal life. An intuitive dance between ideas and materials allows for a call and response process, which creates an ecosystem of creative discovery. The goal of her work is to create a contemplative visual space – a space that embodies a spirit, a space that acts as a passage between our world and one that may exist within and beyond ours.
Vicki McKenna’s photographs are intimate landscapes that focus on the interactions between water, air, earth, and biology. They are common scenes that are easy to stroll by without noticing. With varying scales, these black and white images encourage the viewer to look more closely. The prints were made using the platinum/palladium process, a traditional method that requires hand-coating of the paper, because of subtle tones that can be produced.
